It’s been quite some time since I scanned one of these articles. I have a stock of them waiting for me to stop being lazy and post up. So I start with one from a few months ago. File 8 is a local NA that I have actually seen at Meihan a few times.
As you can see it’s been kept super simple, with only a Tuckin’99 lip and 14×8 -1 front, +10 rear SSR mesh.
Engine mods have been kept to near zero, with only the basic intake, header and one off 46φ muffler made by local shop, T-welding. Power from the 1.6 is likely only around 100hp. But where power is low, the Maruha 4.8 final paired with the Mazdaspeed LSD are sure to keep rpms high wheels spinning.
Footwork again is kept simple. Buddyclub coilovers with 8k/6k rate springs. Angle is improved with a redrilled oem knuckle. I can tell you seeing this car run is fun, and the driver has been drifting roadsters for nearly 12years..so you know he can drive well. Be sure to check out the full scan below and look for more of these as I try and catch up! Cheers.
That Stance USA has finally released their coilover for the 86. I’m happy to say I had a small part in the process and wanted to add that the wait was worth it. Simply put, the best coilover on the market for your AE86.
At this past summer’s Ebisu Drift Matsuri, there is one thing that sticks in my head (Keith I am sure you recall this). Standing in the pits at East course, I recall Koguchi going out on course in a random (possibly customers?) S14. Of course I stopped what I was doing to watch. 4th gear manji down the 420m straight lap after lap…of course was amazing to watch. But what is still stuck in my head, was Koguchi’s face. Via his open face helmet, every single time by he had a huge smile on his face. Fun at its best. He has been drifting for how many years now? Who knows….but keeping it fun is the key.
But the note is also in respect to this fine example he has built.
I’ve finally got caught up for the most part with work and getting other things in order after coming back from Tokyo, so I headed out to have some fun in the dirt yesterday with some buddies and their Suzuki Jimnys. It is always a good time, and the mix of automobiles, alcohol, food, and animals always proves interesting. For the full set be sure to check Flickr. Of course any event requires a stop at a conbini (convenience store) for food and drink. I rode up with Masa and his older brother.
What I ended up driving mostly was Masa’s boss’ Jimny. He removed the body and remade it using tube and plywood. I felt safe…with no helmet and questionable 4point harness. The normal 550cc Jimny engine has been replaced with the larger 1.3L out of the non Kei version Jimny. It’s fast and way light…so keeping it in 2nd and sliding around was a blast.
My good friend that works at Yokohama (and also always changes my tires for free!) and his younger brother brought out 2 (of their 5!) Jimnys to play. Both and super clean, but sadly each suffered from minor mechanical problems and weren’t able to run around much.
I grabbed some video of Masa and his bro messing around. Notice the power of the 2stroke…stays running while on it’s side.
And them fixing the door so it would close for our hour ride home….
and lifting the motor by hand to replace a broken motor mount:
Another chill day…likely the last nice one of the year? I’d hope not but we shall see. Again, be sure to check the full set of pics out if you like! Cheers
Finally ditched the old seat and picked up this leather solo seat...but I passed on the springs to keep it low. Stoked with how it looks for now. Next up are new bars and tank paint. For some reason this seat change has made this thing SO much more fun...
Rob: Still working on it....when I have time :(...
